ACS Engineering has simplified compliance for the power industry and developed comprehensive compliance programs that have resulted in zero penalties during numerous agency inspections.

Why Choose Us?

The fossil fuel electric power generation industry has become one of the most highly regulated industries due to the release of significant quantities of potentially harmful pollutants into the environment. In addressing environmental issues, the industry has moved from providing not only the lowest cost energy, to now providing the lowest cost energy with a reduced impact on the environment. Air pollution control has been of most concern, with a significant percentage of the cost of a power plant going towards the purchase of air pollution control equipment. The ongoing cost of compliance with air quality regulations has also become a significant addition to the overall operating cost of power plants. Control of storm water and process effluent discharges and proper management and disposal of solid wastes have also been key concerns.

Our dedicated staff of power plant professionals understands your requirements and how to ensure your compliance program will meet the demanding requirements that are currently applicable and increasing on a constant basis. We have prepared numerous permits and regulatory-driven plans and worked with the plant personnel to ensure their understanding and implementation of the associated requirements is proper and ongoing.

Case Study > Nonattainment Issue Resolved

An existing power plant was undergoing an expansion project in a county that was being scrutinized for potential nonattainment status and at the same time there was a significant amount of new requirements being promulgated for the power industry in general. ACS Engineering staff worked closely with the plant personnel and with agency permit writers to ensure that the site was not subject to any requirements that could be avoided and negotiated several key points in the permit conditions to avoid additional control and monitoring requirements beyond what was currently in place. Timely and accurate responses to agency requests as well as an administratively complete application to begin with resulted in the final construction permit being issued prior to the imposition of new requirements that would have jeopardized the entire project due to additional costs and operating limitations.

Case Study > Zero Violations

An electric generating facility recognized that their overall compliance program was lacking documentation, leaving management with the feeling that they were vulnerable to upcoming agency inspections. ACS Engineering reviewed their program and filled in missing gaps related to air permitting, recordkeeping and reporting, storm water and wastewater management and reporting, waste classification and documentation, risk management plan and spill prevention plan. Upon completion of these projects ACS implemented the online compliance program with the site-specific permit requirements, state and federal air, water and waste regulations, NERC requirements, OSHA and RMP rules, site specific plans and company rules. The site has since gone through three agency inspections, relying heavily on our environmental compliance system for the required documentation, and passed each with zero violations.
